Transients and Electromagnetic Compatibility in Eelectric Power System

Course description: Theoretical background to the simulation of electromagnetic transients. Classification of transients according to the frequency ranges. Modeling of transformers, sources (lightning current, standard sources), switches (ideal, non-ideal, controlled), transmission lines and cables, surge arresters, nonlinear inductance and hysterec reactor. Practical examples of transients: line energization, temporary overvoltages, statistical analysis, ferroresonance cases, lightning overvoltages. Electromagnetic compatibility in high voltage substations. Origins and propagation of electromagnetic interferences in substations. Recomendations for the decrease of transients in secondary circuits of HV switchgear installations.
