Course description: Fundamentals of quantum mechanics. Schroedinger equation and its applications. Hydrogen atom. Ionic, covalent and molecular bonds in crystals. Fermi gas model, Fermi energy. Quantum statistics. Crystal heat capacity and conduction. Electrons in crystal lattice, energy bands. Intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors. Superconductors, applications of superconductors, high temperature superconductivity. Characteristics of dielectric materials. Solid and liquid dielectrics. Electromagnetic properties of materials. Diamagnetism, paramagnetism and ferromagnetism. Technical, medical and industrial applications.
