Course description: Problems with complex geometry and material properties often arise in development and design of electromagnetic devices. Application of analytical procedures introduced in the course Electromagnetic Fields often results with inaccurate results and we have to use numerical methods. Main topics are: electromagnetic potentials, wave equation and integrals of potentials and fields. Finite element method, insulating system design. Nonlinear problems, calculation of magnetic field, reactance, forces and torques in energy-conversion devices. Quasistatic problems, calculation of skin effect and eddy currents in lines. Method of moments, calculation of low-frequency electric and magnetic field in substations and in vicinity of power lines. Earthling system design.
