Course description:
I university term (15 hours) 1. Introductory lecture: what is an art song, its development, meaning, comparison with songs of other European nations 2. Assessment of individual student vocal abilities 3. Selection of music literature according to individual current vocal and technical abilities 4. Selection of music literature according to individual current vocal and technical abilities 5. The significance of Croatian art song in the context of European art song 6. Collaborative vocal and piano coaching of the singer and a student pianist, working on chosen vocal literature 7. Identifying diversity and distinctiveness of songs from different Croatian regions 10. Text analysis and acquisition of the correct accentuation of the Croatian language 11. Introductory lecture: a) Getting to know operatic arias and duets in Croatian music literature b) Artistic period setting, significance in the context of European tradition 2. Listening to Croatian opera music performed by opera singers 3. Listening to Croatian sacred music performed by singers 4. Adequate to individual possibilities - a selection of operatic literature 5. Adequate to individual possibilities - a selection of operatic literature 6. Sight-reading of opera literature, possible modifications of most common final cadenzas 7. Learning outcomes:

1. 1. good knowledge of the most important Croatian vocal composers

2. 2. recognizing the style of an individual author

3. 3. knowledge of the method of interpretation

4. 4. understanding the significance of particular author for the development of Croatian vocal art

5. 5. knowledge of the dominant field of creation of particular author (art song, oratorio, opera)

6. 6. ability to recognize the most significant oeuvre of Croatian composers in the field of solo song, oratorio and opera

7. ability to recognize stylistic features in works that the student encounters in mastering the repertoire of the main subject. Possibility of determining stylistic and compositional-technical characteristics of Croatian vocal literature of a certain period

8. ability to enumerate, according to the importance of the composer's personality, at least three or more of his most important vocal works

9. ability to emphasize the most creative vocal literature Croatian authors and their position in the historical context

10. knowledge of style in recognizing the works of individual authors
