Course description:
Introducing students to flute-related instruments, their playing techniques and performance of orchestral, chamber and solo literature written for piccolo, alto flute and recorder. Learning about and mastering musical transposition, mastering most know orchestral excerpts Learning the basics of playing the bass flute, traverso (baroque flute) and flute-like folk instruments. Upon completing the course the student will: -Distinguish the characteristics and historical development of the flute family of instruments -Master the skill to play the piccolo to such an extent that the tone is intonationally stable, of high quality and even throughout the tonal range -Know and interpret basic orchestral literature for piccolo, with a focus on stylistically correct interpretation, role awareness and interaction with other instruments -Recognize the historical, social and musical context of selected musical works with a focus on recognizing and distinguishing the styles of Baroque, Classicism, Romanticism and contemporary musical expression -Master the basic skill of playing the alto flute (transposition, characteristics (intonation and tone) of individual sound registers) -Interpret the most important orchestral excerpts for alto flute and bass flute -Learning the basics of playing the bass flute, traverso (baroque flute) -Develop the skill of playing various recorders: master basic playing techniques on the whole range of instruments, basic articulation, intonation correction, basics of ornamentation, fingering, transposition, reading music in E-clef -master the simple literature for recorders, develop the skill of playing in an ensemble with an emphasis on interaction and correction of intonation -learn the characteristic of flute-like folk instruments and master their playing techniques. Kondres and exercises by J.P.Beaumadier -intonation exercises -orchestral solo (listening to musical examples) -Vivaldi's concerts -Studies by other authors (P. Morris) Recorder -history of the recorder -construction and maintenance of the instrument -setup and elements of the instrument -recorder exercises (combined Kondres, Linde, etc.) -duets, trios and shorter solo compositions -transposition, E-celf -playing the alto recorder, -introduction to soprano, tenor and bass recorders Alto flute -historical development and application -elements on the instrument -alt-flute studies (Prill, Boehm, etc.) -orchestral solo -basics of transposition Bass flute -elements on the instrument, orchestral solo Baroque flute (traveso) -historical development of the instrument -construction and maintenance of the instrument -setup and elements of the instrument Other instruments: lotos flute, ocarina, slide flute, folklore instruments
