Course description:
Familiarization with the basic principles of building a musical form - motif, sentence, period. Students practically adopt the basic procedures of building a musical form; they develop a sense for the musical and logical development of musical thought within the limits of historical, aesthetic-stylistic boundaries with a share of individual preferences and creativity. Content according to the class schedule: 1) Small three-partite song, creation of a small suite for piano (6 movements), examples from the literature 2) Working with student examples (first movement), exercises; rhythmic exercises with with added values, shaping the melody according to the given modes. 3) Creation of the 1st movement, examples from literature, rhythmic and melodic exercises 4) Creation of the 2nd movement, individual review of works 5) Creation of the 2nd movement, review of works, exercises with rhythm and melody values 6) Creation of the 3rd movement of the suite. 7) Creation of the 3rd movement, reviewing the student works, exercises (rhythmic and melodic) 8) Creation of the 4th movement, examples from the literature. 9) Creation of the 4th movement, rhythmic and melodic exercises. 10) Preparation of the 5th movement, reviewing student works 11) Creation of the 5th movement, examples from literature, rhythmic and melodic exercises. 12) Creation of the 6th movement, rhythmic and melodic exercises 13) Creation of the 6th movement, rhythmic and melodic exercises. 14) Reviewing student works. 15) Reviewing student works.

Learning outcomes:

1. Capability to compose small tripartite form.

2. Application of acquired knowledge in connecting musical elements into larger formal units.

3. Using the specifics of external and internal extensions, thematic unity and stylistic specifics in the construction of a musical form.

4. Analyze and interpret various components of a musical work such as musical form, compositional technique, harmony, polyphony, orchestration.
