Course description:
Acquiring facts related to the chronology of musical-historical periods/styles from the time of primitive communities to the end of the Renaissance; familiarization with forms of collective and solo music making; acquisition of knowledge related to the development of musical theory and its application to musical practice; familiarization with the works of the most famous composers (theoretical and auditory), through which knowledge is acquired about the elements of compositional harmony, aesthetics of style, etc.

Learning outcomes:

1. After passing the exam, the student will be able to explain the basic characteristics of music in the Hellenistic period and medieval and Renaissance music

2. classify musical periods and recognize them aurally

3. Analyse and interpret the most important works for piano.

4. Analyse and interpret the most important works for string instruments.

5. Analyse and interpret the most important works for wind instruments.

6. Analyse and interpret different components of a musical work such as musical form, harmonic and polyphonic component.

7. Analyse and interpret different components of a musical work such as musical form, composition technique, harmonic and polyphonic component, orchestration.

8. Interpret the goals and tasks of different forms of music teaching.

9. Create methodological topics, theoretical and practical, for the classes Music Culture, Music Art and Solfeggio.

10. Memorise longer musical content and maintain concentration and quality of performance during the evening recital.

11. Form one's own mature artistic concepts.

12. Recognise and characterise auditory musical examples of folk music from different parts of Croatia.

13. Apply the acquired knowledge and skills to a distinctive stylistic performance in a public performance.

14. Apply the acquired knowledge and singing skills to a distinctive stylistic joint performance of a composition.

15. Work as an associate in primary and secondary schools' extracurricular music activities.

16. Synthetise musical-analytical, aesthetic and technical knowledge and skills on the instrument during the performance of a work.

17. Synthetise musical-analytical, aesthetic and technical instrument knowledge and skills with the performance of the work.

18. Aurally recognise musical artwork with regard to the historical period of origin and stylistic characteristics.

19. Create one's own artistic concepts.

20. Collaborate in the field of music creation in art institutions, media, libraries and music publications.

21. Interpret the general compositional characteristics of the most important piano composers.

22. Interpret the general compositional characteristics of the most important composers of the Baroque, Classicism and Romanticism.
