Course description:
Adoption of facts related to the most important events in the field of nurturing musical art, especially creativity in the range from the arrival of Croats to these areas until the end of the 17th century; achieving awareness of the importance of Dalmatia as a cultural center in all manifestations of creativity and music and its dominance in relation to other Croatian countries; getting to know the musical life of Split (origins and localities of music, societies, institutions), which was the center of the political and religious organization of the old Croatian state.

Learning outcomes:

1. After passing the exam, the student will be able to describe the most important phenomena in the field of musical art in Croatia, from Glagolitic to Renaissance polyphony to early Baroque monody.

2. Analyse and interpret different components of a musical work such as musical form, harmonic and polyphonic component.

3. Create and carry out the entire teaching activities for the named subjects.

4. Explain and organize the results of research in writing.

5. Apply basic methods of music analysis and scholarly work in practice and in writing academic papers.

6. Work as a music editor in various media.

7. Independently create teaching units for the subjects Music Culture (in primary school), Music Art (in secondary school) and Solfeggio (in primary music school).

8. Aurally recognise musical artwork with regard to the historical period of origin and stylistic characteristics.
