Course description:
Students will acquire theoretical foundations and practical knowledge in the field of painting materials and technologies. There is a special emphasis on knowledge applicable in the field of conservation-restoration. Through this course, the student will acquire basic knowledge about stone, ceramics, glass and metal as painting supports, as well as the technology and techniques of painting walls, making mosaics, ceramics, glass and metal. To acquaint students with the basic technology of different painting materials and techniques (wet and dry painting techniques; charcoal, pencil, pastel, ink, watercolor, tempera, oil, acrylic). Learning outcomes at the level of the study programme for the evaluated academic year: KR6 Comprehend the original technologies of creation of individual cultural assets. KR7 Comprehend the most important processes of deterioration of individual cultural assets. KR24 Determine the dangers that may threaten cultural property

Learning outcomes:

1. Students will know how to process or prepare different painting supports (wall, glass, ceramics, metal) in order to firmly and permanently accept paint applications. Learning outcomes at the level of the study programme for the evaluated academic year: KR6 Comprehend the original technologies of creation of individual cultural assets. KR7 Comprehend the most important processes of deterioration of individual cultural assets. KR24 Determine the dangers that may threaten cultural property

2. Students will be able to describe the basic techniques and choose the most favorable materials and performance techniques. Learning outcomes at the level of the study programme for the evaluated academic year: KR6 Comprehend the original technologies of creation of individual cultural assets. KR7 Comprehend the most important processes of deterioration of individual cultural assets. KR24 Determine the dangers that may threaten cultural property

3. Students will know the technology of traditional drawing materials, dry and wet drawing techniques, the concept and types of fixatives, the importance of choosing pigments and binders with regard to the specifics of a particular drawing/painting technique. Learning outcomes at the level of the study programme for the evaluated academic year: KR6 KR7 KR24

4. Students will be able to define the composition of binders and describe the artistic specificities of different painting techniques. 5. Students will be able to define the terms quicklime, slaked lime, al fresco, al secco, spolvero, sinopia, incisione, arricio, intonaco, tessera, opus vermiculatum, opus tesselatum, engoba, emulsion, emulsifier, protective colloid, thixotropy, sicative, casein, plasticizer, dispersion, tratteggio, pointillism, imprimatura, underpainting, grisaille, verdaccio, intermediate varnish, al prima, oil medium, glaze and impasto. KR6 Comprehend the original technologies of creation of individual cultural assets.
