Course description:
<br> Expanding professional vocabulary. Developing the skills in discussing professional topics. Translation techniques. Writing shorter works about professional topics. Independent presentation in English related to professional problems. Learning about the differences between the professional and standard English language. <br> <strong>Learning outcomes at the level of the programme to which the course contributes</strong> <ul><li>Understand the role of geodesy, geoinformatics and spatial data in modern world, demonstrate competences in measuring systems, methods and technologies of measurement and spatial data collection. <li>Demonstrate competences in regulations and administrative framework important for geodesy and geoinformatics, the regulations related to copy right, publishing and exchange of spatial data. <li>Keep pace with and adopt new technological achievements in the field of surveying, geoinformation systems and services based on the position, and the changes in regulations, norms and standards. <li>Take responsibility for continuing academic development in the field of geodesy and geoinformatics, or related disciplines, and for the development of interest in lifelong learning and further professional education.</ul> <strong>Learning outcomes expected at the level of the course</strong> <ul><li>Develop intercultural and communication skills <li>Develop strategies for the participation in conversations within the professional frame using acquired professional vocabulary in English <li>Develop skill of understanding, speaking and writing in English for special purposes <li>Develop productive application of language for special purposes <li>Develop and improve the skills of interpreting English speaking and written contents <li>Develop strategies of independent learning</ul> <strong>Course content broken down in detail by weekly class schedule (syllabus)</strong><br> Selected texts intended for achieving the goals in learning English for special purposes in the following areas: <ul><li>Land registry <li>Cadastre <li>Difference between land registry in Croatia and in English speaking countries <li>Topographic survey <li>Construction survey <li>Employment of surveyors <li>Writing job applications</ul> <strong>Screening student work</strong> <ul><li>Tests - 1 ECTS <li>Oral exam - 1 ECTS <li>Written exam - 1 ECTS</ul>
